Collaboration Made Simple
May 8th, 2009While working on projects, particularly with clients that are not local, we find a need to share files, images, and track small discussions. Being a tech company the first thought is FTP. After explaining FTP and client software required (way too many times) another option was needed.
On-line project management proved just as complex for average users. The answer we found is Box.net a simple yet feature rich alternative.
An administrator just adds a user, project folder, and some simple instructions in the provided MS Word like program. Users can also be assigned a few types of permissions/roles.
Click the ‘Send Invitation’ and your client / coworker receives an email with all they need to join.
Box.net includes file uploads, discussion groups, version history, and many other functions needed for your projects. Even Mobile support. Several other services including Facebook, ZoHo Presentations, and EditGrid speadsheets can be added to your Box through the OpenBox menu options.
A free plan is available for small groups as well as inexpensive subscriptions for more complex projects.
This is not for project management or large organization collaboration. And that’s exactly why it fits the bill. A clean user interface and simple options are the services strong points.
